Jonah - 'Call Out My Name' by The Weeknd

Image
Jonah here - It's Saturday and time for me to review another song from the Billboard Hot 100! This week I listened to the intimate 'Call Out My Name' by The Weeknd. A heartfelt call to love by the Canadian, 'Call Out My Name' pulls heart strings, sex strings, emotional strings... pretty much all the strings that exist! Abel really blends beautiful and rhythmic music with some of The Weeknd's greatest delivery of lyrics. Accompanying the Hit Single and 'My Dear Melancholy' album trailblazer, 'Call Out My Name' has a mystifying music video with tones of angst, not out of grievance but out of an angst of loves keen sting, which is really the epitome of this new song. 'Call Out My Name' is seriously some of The Weeknd's best work, and in the future of the blog, it is no surprise that he will eventually return with hits from his newest album that have made the Hot 100. The Weeknd, also known by his real name Abel, in the music ...

Sanjeev - Walk It Talk It by Migos featuring Drake

Image
Hey guys, it's Sanjeev with your weekly review, hope you guys had a great week! As per usual I will be reviewing a song from the Billboards Hottest 100 which is currently in the top 40. This week I will be reviewing Walk it Talk It by Migos Featuring Drake which is currently 11th on the charts   The song on its own has a very catchy chorus and cool beat with a simple flow. However, what makes the song popular is the music video with a contrasting rap with a retro 70’s look. The music video features fashion and trends that were consistent with the 1970’s and also features Actor Jamie Foxx who introduces the viewer as if it were a ‘game show’. Although it may seem random mixing modern rap with a retro look it was something refreshing and fun to see and enhanced the song. I would give this song an 8.5/10. Thanks for reading my review and see you next week! Link to music video below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGqdIPer-ms Album cover

Never Be the Same by Camila Cabello review by Emily

Image
Reference Hello! My name is Emily and I am currently studying Bachelor of Commerce in Professional Accounting at Macquarie University. I will be posting weekly reviews of my favourite songs in the Billboad Hot 100, I hope through this I am able to recommend you new music! To start of my first blog, I would to give you a taste of the style of music I enjoy. My current favourite songs at the moment is Camila Cabello’s   “Never Be the Same” which currently sits at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is part of the pop genre in Cabello's album.  The song begins with a retro tune, in the music this is accompanied with footage similar to one of a 90’s home made video with cut jumps to clips filmed in studio.   Although the song sounds upbeat at first, the lyrics have a deeper meaning. The lyrics begin with “Something must’ve gone wrong in my brain, got your chemicals all in my vein”, indicating the strong bond of affection towards the partne...

Yasuph - Freaky Friday-Lil Dicky featuring chris brown

Image
Hey guys, my name is Yasuph and I will be posting weekly on Sundays. I Study at Macquarie uni and I am also a dancer so I'm always dancing to new music so I'll be reviewing music that I've been dancing to. This weeks song is Freaky Friday by Lil Dicky featuring Chris Brown, it is number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Title of this song is a reference to a Disney movie released in 2003 called the same name, in which actor Lindsey Lohan switches bodies with her mum. Similarly to the movie the song freaky Friday talks about the perspectives of the artists Chris Brown and Lil Dicky switching bodies for a day talking about how they are experiencing their time in the other artist's body. This adds a really comedic effect to the song as there is a lot of humor when two very different artists switch bodies and experience the other artist body for a day.  The producer Dj mustard uses a simple bass drum and snares over synthesizers gives the song ...

Jonah - 'Look Alive' by Blocboy JB featuring Drake.

Hi! I'm Jonah and I post the Saturday blog for this Top 40 chart review. To introduce myself; I am a University Student studying a Bachelor of Planning at Macquarie Uni. Music, to me, is an incredible art-form, a medium for artists to express stories and messages through sound. Essentially, I believe music is an extension of a person's deeper thoughts and emotions. I think this is incredibly important, so I am accepting of all music genres and artists. In relation to the song I will be reviewing in this post, rap and r'n'b is a VERY special part of music. It is a unification of musical genres and lyrics, dominated by African-American culture, and acts as a voice for the Black communities in the USA and, by extension, the rest of the world. The first song to be reviewed by me is "Look Alive" by Blocboy JB featuring: Drake. Firstly, for some background to these artists, Drake is a front-runner for Rap and R'n'B within the musical word exemplified ...

Sanjeev - All The Stars (Kendrick Lamar ft. SZA)

Image
Hi, my name is Sanjeev, I am a university student and a  music enthusiast, predominantly listen to rap and r&b music. I will be posting every Thursday a review of a specific song that is currently on the Billboard Top 40 chart. In my reviews, I will be giving various thoughts and opinions on the song and its features. This week I am reviewing ‘All the Stars’ By Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA which has fallen to 25 on the billboard charts but still one of my favourite songs. The vocals provided by Kendrick is simply brilliant, has a very smooth flow which accompanies the up-tempo beat exceptionally well. In addition, the chorus sung passionately by SZA adds a charm and soothing element as well as this, the catchiness of the chorus makes the song a hit in my opinion. Therefore I give this song a 9/10 Thanks for reading my review and I'll see you next week! Link to the music video below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQbjS0_ZfJ0 Album cover below

Today I'm reviewing Gods Plan by Drake as it is one of my favourite songs at the moment and is currently number one on the Billboard charts so it is a good start. The song is a very good feeling one with a great beat and a great flow produced by Drake, the mix of Drakes style of rap and Boi-1da's producing create a very feel good song.
